Alaska Summer 2008

I guess you could call is summer.... We went from 100 degree weather in Utah to 50-60 degree weather in Alaska. It was nice to get some cooler weather before heading back to Louisville in the hot and yucky humity! Caiden and Kaebrii had a blast with their AK cousin. It was fun seeing all the little cousins that are getting so big now. They were able to see all the Alaskan animals too. A mommy moose and two calfs wondered through grandma's yard one morning, and Jon and Aunt Leisl saw a couple of black bears in the yard too.
The Alaska Zoo was a big hit with Caiden. He kept asking grandma when we were going back there and would name all the animals he saw. For some reason he kept talking about the porcipines.... and there was a funny but cute looking lama of some sort (on the right.) The grizzly, black and polar bears were fun to see. (yes, it was cold enough in early august for Caiden and Kaebrii to wear a winter hat! :)

Caiden and Kaebrii loved to watch the float planes take off and land on Mount hood lake. It is so pretty there with so many things that are so close to see and do.

We took advantage of one of the warmer days (65 degrees or so...) and went to Goose Lake. The kids had fun playing in the water and sand and feeding the ducks!

Every summer you have to make a trip over to Whitter - to go through the 7 mile tunnel- and to see the beautiful bay over the other side of the mountain. It was a girl trip with the kids: grandma, Kiirsten, Heather, and Myself and all of our kids. The kids had a blast throwing rocks into the ocean (until they fall into the cold water-hence picture of kaebrii on the right.) Then we hiked up to see Portage Galcier. This is a steep hike and half of the kids couln't walk or were under the age of 3. Lets just say by half way up I was carring Kaebrii on my back in the backpack, Ireland was on my shoulders and I was pulling Caiden up the hill by the hand. I am sure it was a sight to see. But we made it to the top and the views were worth it!

Jon enjoyed his daily fishing trips and was glad his friend Jeff was able to come so he had a fishing partner. I was able to go fishing twice with the grace of my mother! It is such a pretty place to go fishing. The kids always love seeing the fish daddy brings home!

Plans for now, we are going to be moving up to Anchorage in May 2009 when Jon graduates from Dental School. We are excited for the new adventure that come ahead of us!
