Fishing in Alaska

This summer has been fishing, fishing and more fishing. Now when Jon goes fishing at night Caiden asks him.... fishing again? We have had a blast and have made great family memories. I didn't grow up fishing but when I married Jon I had to learn or I would be left behind. The kids have love throwing rocks into the river... helping us real in the fish, smacking the fish and pretend they are fishing. They have been great sports this summer tagging along on our fishing and camping trips. I am so glad that we have been able to share this time together as a family plus I love eating fish!

this is one of Jon's favorite spots to fish, the Kenai. It is about 2 hours south of Anchorage. He knows the drive like the back of his hand. You have to ride across a small ferry to get to the "good" fishing side of the river. This trip was kind of last minute with the kids. but we are so glad we brought them. We always look a little funny because we have so much stuff! I carry Kaebs in the backpack, Jon has his fishing backpack, gun and 2 poles and Caiden is usually carrying something. We got so many funny looks on the ferry and as we walked along the riverside down to where Jon likes to fish... people weren't given us funny looks any more as we both caught our limit (6 fish each) in an 1 hour in1/2 when no one else was catching any fish! benefit of a husband who knows what he is doing! Needless to say we had a blast and the kids had fun helping us reel in the fish!

Jon hooking into the fish!

Kaebs trying to hold up one of the fish she helped reel in

Caiden showing daddy how to kill the fish!
Silly kids!

Proud kids!

Caiden wearing Papa Dee's fishing vest... he is an official fisherman! The scenery is beautiful!
Another fishing hole we like to go to is the Russian River... it flows into the Kenai. You have to hike/bike into the river about 2 miles. this is usually done easily with a stroller or bike... acourse we left our stroller and backpack at home and Kaebs was tuckered out from the day of fishing!
What a site! A tired woman with a backpack on and a little girl a sleep sitting on top of the bag!

It is pretty thick brush and trees.... you are almost guaranteed to see a bear or two while you are up there.
We bring lots of treats!
Caiden catching the big one! This is the closest fishing hole... Bird Creek is about 1/2 an hour south of Anchorage. It has alot of pinks running through and every other year gets a good run of silvers. it is a fun place for the kids!

That looks like so much fun. Glad to be out of school I bet. Those are some big fish. I bet you're learning all sort of new ways to cook fish! We miss you guys.
